Al-Jaafari: Countries Supporting Terrorism in Syria Keep Talking Misleadingly on Crisis to Serve Pro-Extremism Project in the Region

NEW YORK- Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari has said that some countries, which have been involved in shedding the Syrian blood over the past three years, used the Security Council’s session on the “Situation in the Middle East” to talk provocatively and misleadingly about the situation in Syria to serve the pro-terrorism and extremism scheme in Syria and the entire region and to divert the world’s attention away from the core issue which is how to end the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories, including the Syrian Golan.

In a statement on Tuesday during the UNSC session dedicated to discuss the “Situation in the Middle East”, al-Jaafari said it was regrettable that none of those who spoke provocatively about the crisis in Syria mentioned the terrorist attacks which hit Syria yesterday. “Two car bombs were blown up in old Homs claiming the lives of 36 people, including children, and wounding 85 others. Also, four mortar shells hit a school in al-Shaghour neighborhood killing 14 children and wounding 86 others,” al-Jaafari clarified.

He said that in their statements, UN representatives of some anti-Syria states, which have been providing armed terrorist groups in Syria with all forms of support, claimed they were keen on preserving the Syrian people’s rights, “but they didn’t even mention a single word about ways of ending the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan on which the Security Council had adopted resolution No. 497.”

He asked why delegations of these countries don’t talk about international laws and human rights when the issue is connected with the Israeli settlement activities and the almost half a century long suffering of the Syrians under the Israeli occupation in the Golan.

Al-Jaafari affirmed that the assistance provided by Israel to terrorist groups in the “disengagement” area in the occupied Syrian Golan was a blatant violation of the Disengagement Agreement and international laws.

He stressed that Israel’s help to terrorists also endangered the lives of the UN forces working in the Golan, as they have been the target of shootings and kidnapping by armed groups who some like to call “moderate opposition”.

“It wasn’t enough for Israel to provide logistic support for the terrorists. It carried out several direct military attacks against some areas and sites close to the disengagement line in the Syrian Golan; attacks which prove close coordination between the Israeli occupation forces and the armed terrorist groups in the disengagement area,” Al-Jaafari said, stressing that Israel also have exactly the same coordination with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey.

He clarified “there is a clear alliance between the three countries and Israel based on supporting the terrorist groups in Syria regardless their affiliations whether they are linked to al-Qaeda, the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, al-Nousra front or to any other terrorist front, aiming to destroy Syria and undermine hopes of establishing an independent Palestinian state.”

“Some should no more cheat themselves and keep justifying Israel’s crimes. All know well that Israel has been based on occupation and expansion and never been interested in peace,” al-Jaafari said, pointing out that Israel has annexed the Syrian Golan and al-Quds, attacked some countries in the region, committed horrible crimes against the Palestinians, violated the international law and the UN Charter, targeted Islamic and Christian shrines, rejected any international control over its nuclear arsenal, tried to judaize al-Quds and undermine the Palestinians’ right of return and hindered all peace initiatives.
