Brussels (ST) – Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell affirmed that the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing Israeli aggression is beyond description.
Agence France-Presse quoted Borrell as saying before chairing his last meeting with EU foreign ministers in Brussels before the end of his term next month: “There are no more words… I have exhausted all words to explain what is happening in the Middle East, where Israel is waging a devastating war in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.”
Borrell stressed that there are about 44,000 victims in Gaza, 70% of whom are women and children, and the majority of these children are under the age of nine, which represents a humanitarian catastrophe.
Borrell indicated that he will urge the ministers in this last meeting, chaired by him, to suspend the political dialogue stipulated in the partnership agreement between the Union and Israel.
