Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Eng. Samar Al-Sabai, discussed with the Director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Syria, Amanya Michael, the services provided by the agency to Palestinian refugees in various fields and its work plan for the coming year.
Minister Al-Sabai pointed out the importance of networking with international organizations to make more efforts so that Palestinians receive the necessary aid and support. She called on UNRWA to focus its work during the coming period on small and micro projects due to their role in empowering families and individuals, especially returnees from Lebanon, and in a way that contributes to creating job opportunities for them.
Minister Al-Sabai pointed out the Syrian government’s interest in providing the necessary support to UNRWA to carry out its tasks and implement its activities in all areas that include Palestinians.
For his part, Michael reviewed UNRWA’s work plan for the year and the services it will provide to Palestinian refugees. He stressed that UNRWA is doing its utmost to support Palestinian refugees and will continue to find innovative ways to maintain its services and empower Palestinian refugees through several programmes, including vocational and technical training, small projects, and a social safety net programme to support the elderly and families, especially women.
