DAMASCUS,(ST)_Foreign-backed terrorists have launched 13 shells on the quarters of al-Shagour and al-Abbaseyen in the capital [Damascus], killing at least 14 civilians and wounding 94 others, according to the official news agency (SANA).
The agency quoted a source at the police command as citing that two shells landed on the ‘ Badreddin al-Hasani’ Institute for Sharia sciences in al-Shaghour quarter, in old Damascus, where about 14 students were martyred and 86 others wounded.
Two more shells hit the surrounding of the institute, leaving material damages without casualties.
Awqaf Minister, Dr. Mohammad Abdulsattar al-Sayyed, declared that the mortar attack on the institute target the real Islam and noble values.
On his part, Damascus governor, Dr. Beshr al-Sabban, said that terrorists and criminals try to break the Syrian people’s will through targeting schools and state institutions.
“Syrians have stressed that they are stronger than terrorism and they will go ahead with building their homeland,” the governor added.
Later on , the agency reported that another mortar attack took place in al-Abbaseyen quarter in the same province [Damascus] as some nine shells hit the area, wounding eight civilians.
A third mortar attack killed four civilians, including three children, and wounded 19 others when several shells –fired by terrorists, landed on a shelter in the Palestinian Martyrs’ Sons School in Adra al-Balad area in Damascus countryside.
The shelter houses many displaced persons that fled their homes in restive areas because of the armed terrorist groups’ acts.
Twin Homs blasts claim dozens of lives
The deadliest attack ripped through Homs city as terrorists blasted two car bombs near al-Abbaseyeh square, killing at least 40 civilians and wounding 116 others.
Most of those who were martyred by the twin car bomb attacks were children and women, according to a source at Homs governorate.
“The terrorist attack is a coward criminal act that targets stability and security and the national reconciliation,” the Governor of Homs said.
