On the Second Day of the World Education Meeting… Minister of Education Presents an Intervention on Work Skills In Vocational and Technical Education

With the participation of Syria, the World Education Meeting, held in Fortaleza, Brazil, is following up on its work for the second day. The Minister of Education, Chairman of the Syrian National Committee for UNESCO, Dr. Mohamed Amer Al-Mardini, presented an intervention on work skills in vocational and technical education within a work session.

In his intervention, Minister Al-Mardini stressed the importance of vocational and technical education in Syria and the great support given by the government to this important sector within the framework of a comprehensive national vision to develop and improve this type of education, and to provide its obligations to overcome the difficulties and challenges facing it.

Al-Mardini pointed out that there is a large number of vocational schools in Syria that meet the needs of the labor market and are equipped with curricula that take into account the new required specializations.

He went to say that through the issuance of laws 38 and 25, the ministry was able to transform vocational schools and technical institutes into production centers to supply the local market with products and workforce, indicating that vocational education includes 25 Electronic, Electrical, Computer, medical, mechanical, trade, sewing and other professions.

The Minister of Education also talked about the experience of dual education and participatory between vocational schools and chambers of industry and Commerce, pointing out the importance of supporting entrepreneurship through small projects, as well as training local teams to participate in international competitions such as the Robotics Competition, and carrying out courses for vocational high schools in the field of quality and ISO.

Minister al-Mardini concluded his intervention by stressing the need to exert efforts and continue to establish partnerships and coordinate forms of cooperation at the national level and at the level of relations with international organizations to support and develop this important type of Education.
