Iraq condemned on Monday , through an official protest note submitted to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Security Council, the Israeli violation of Iraqi airspace and sovereignty.
“Iraq officially submitted a protest note to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Security Council, which included condemnation of the blatant violation committed by the Zionist entity over Iraq’s airspace and sovereignty” The Iraqi government spokesman, Bassem Al-Awadi, said in a statement reported by the “INA” agency
The statement also denounced Israel’s use of Iraqi airspace to carry out the attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran, on October the 26th .
The Prime Minister, according to the statement, directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to communicate with the US side regarding this violation, in accordance with the terms of the bilateral strategic framework agreement, and the United States’ commitment to the security and sovereignty of Iraq.
“The Iraqi government affirms its firm commitment to the sovereignty, independence and sanctity of Iraq’s territory, and that it is working at various levels to confront these violations” The statement added.
It stressed that Iraq will not allow the use of Iraqi airspace or territory to attack other countries, especially neighboring countries that have relations of respect and common interests with Iraq.
“This position reflects Iraq’s keenness to follow a policy of preserving the stability of the region, by preventing any exploitation of its lands in regional conflicts, and supporting the resolution of disputes through dialogue and mutual understanding” the Iraqi government spokesman expressed in the statement.
In a related context, the Iranian General Staff announced on Saturday that hostile Israeli aircrafts used Iraqi airspace available to the US military during their attack on Iranian territory.
The Iranian organization said in a statement regarding the Israeli aggression on Iran that the Zionist enemy used the Iraqi airspace available to the American army and launched from a distance of 100 kilometers from the Iranian border a number of long-range airborne missiles with very light warheads against some border radars in 3 provinces.
