Damirieh, head of ICRC mission in Syria discuss increasing the health services provided to Syria
Damascus (ST) – Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Damirieh discussed with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Syria, Stephane Saklian, ways to enhance joint cooperation in the health field, and increase the health services provided to Syria within the current situation.
During a meeting held today at the Ministry of Health, the two sides discussed the topics being worked on, such as diabetes clinics, leishmaniasis control, the prosthetics center, emergency departments, and reconstructive surgeries, in addition to discussing new projects under construction and training health workers.
Minister Damiriyeh stated that Syria’s relationship with the committee is old, as the committee has provided a lot of support during wars and disasters, expressing his hope to intensify efforts.
Regarding arrivals from Lebanon, Dr. Damiriyeh indicated that approximately 80,000 free medical services were provided, benefiting more than 35,000 arrivals during 33 days, including general medical services, surgical operations, mental and reproductive health, services related to people with chronic diseases, necessary vaccines for children, and tetanus vaccine for women.
In turn, Saklian stressed the committee’s keenness to cooperate with Syria and provide the necessary support to obtain appropriate health care, through signing a new cooperation agreement between the committee and the ministry to raise the level of work.
