BRICS countries stress their unconditional respect for Syria’s sovereignty

The BRICS countries have affirmed their unconditional respect for Syria’s sovereignty and condemned the criminal attacks committed by the Zionist entity in the region, especially in South Lebanon.

In the final declaration of their meeting in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, Russia, under the title “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security”, the BRICS countries stressed, according to “RT” website, the unconditional respect for Syria’s sovereignty and the need to protect its territorial integrity. The BRICS countries also condemned the Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus and the bombing of pagers in Lebanon.

Regarding developments in the region, the BRICS countries expressed their deep concern about the ongoing conflicts and instability in the region, especially in Lebanon, and strongly condemned the killing of civilians and the severe damage to civilian infrastructure as a result of the Israeli occupation’s attacks on residential areas in Lebanon, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

The declaration affirmed the need to preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and create conditions for a political and diplomatic solution in order to preserve peace and stability in the Middle East. It also emphasizing the importance of strict compliance with UN Security Council Resolutions 1701/2006 and 2749/2024.

The declaration strongly condemned the attacks on UN personnel and threats to their security, calling on the Israeli occupation entity to comply with international law. The group also expressed its concern that “the escalation in Gaza Strip would increase tension and extremism and it has extremely harmful consequences at the regional and global levels.”

The BRICS group reiterated its support for “the admission of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations within the context of the firm commitment to the two-state solution on the basis of international law.”

The declaration recalled the provisional measures taken by the International Court of Justice in the proceedings initiated by the State of South Africa against the Israeli occupation entity.

In another context, the BRICS countries renewed their commitment to multilateralism and respect for international law, including the goals and principles provided in the Charter of the United Nations. They also affirmed their commitment to maintaining their central role in the international system in which sovereign states cooperate for the sake of maintaining international peace and security, while promoting sustainable development and enhancing and protecting democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, and cooperation on the basis of solidarity, mutual respect, justice and equality.

The declaration stated: “We affirm the emergence of new centers of power, political decision-making and economic growth, which helps lay the foundations for a more just, democratic and balanced multipolar world order”. It stressed that “multipolarity can allow developing countries and emerging market countries to expand their constructive potential and ensure globalization and comprehensive, fair, equitable and beneficial cooperation.”

The declaration stressed “the need to ensure fair and comprehensive geographical representation in a timely manner in the United Nations Secretariat and in other international organizations.”

Regarding the unilateral measures taken under the pretext of combating climate change, the countries of the group affirmed their opposition to these measures and their commitment to strengthening coordination on these issues.
