Minister of Agriculture Discusses with FAO Representative Projects for Next Phase

The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Fayez al-Mekdad, discussed with the resident representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Damascus, Tony Al-atel, the cooperation in the field of agriculture and the stages reached by the implemented projects and the projects proposed for the next stage.

Minister al-Mekdad stressed that the ministry has a strategy for the development of the agricultural sector and is open to all proposals submitted by all partners to promote and implement this strategy, and provide support to farmers.

The Minister talked about the technical cooperation project on the Citrus Accreditation Program, where products become more marketable and exportable. He stressed the importance of focusing on rural areas adjacent to forests to enable the population economically, whether in agriculture or any other rural activities that help them to create jobs and support them to preserve, develop and protect the forest, in addition to projects related to the livestock sector and development.

Al-atel noted that the Organization continues to support and will make every effort to meet the Ministry’s aspirations for new projects to assist farmers in Syria. He stressed the importance of ongoing coordination and consultation with the Ministry at all stages of project implementation to achieve agricultural development in the next phase.
