Providing additional facilities for restoration projects of buildings damaged by the earthquake in old cities and heritage markets
Damascus, (ST) – Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Ghazi Al-Jalali chaired a meeting of the Services and Infrastructure Committee, held this morning at the Ministry of Tourism building.
The meeting witnessed rich discussions and an assessment of the reality of the procedures related to the restoration of heritage markets in the governorates of Aleppo, Homs and Deir Ezzor in light of Legislative Decree No. 13 of 2022 and the procedures required to be taken by the concerned authorities to ensure the smooth running of restoration work, according to the established timetables and technical programs and to overcome any procedural difficulties that may hinder the implementation of the work.
The meeting focused on ways and mechanisms to provide more facilities for restoration projects and maintenance of buildings damaged by the earthquake in old cities and heritage markets.A number of decisions were taken to provide more exemptions and facilities, especially with regard to contracts for restoration and reinforcement work in the old city and heritage markets in the governorates of Aleppo, Homs and Deir Ezzor.
The meeting also focused on emphasizing the need to adhere to archaeological requirements, given that the ancient cities, especially the city of Aleppo and its historical markets, are registered on the World Heritage List.
