Muscat (ST)- The Syrian national badminton team won the first place in the overall ranking at the conclusion of its participation in the West Asian Championship held in the Omani capital Muscat.
The Syrian team won 14 medals, including 4 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze.
In the women’s doubles competition,the national team won the gold medal in the under-15 category represented by players Lynn Shakerdi and Mayas Qabbani.The bronze medal in the competition was won by Fulla Al-Najjar and Sana Al-Zaabi.
In the men’s doubles competition, the Syrian team also won the gold medal in the under-15 category through players Mohammed Al-Rifai and Abdulrahman Al-Qabbani, and the bronze medal through Hossam Al-Din Al-Rai and Shadi Al-Ansari.The team won the silver medal in the mixed doubles through Mohammed Khaled Al-Rifai and Mayas Qabbani.
In the team competition, the Syrian team won the gold medal in the under-17 category and the silver medal in the under-15 category.
58 male and female players representing eight countries from the West Asia region participated in the tournament: Syria, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, in addition to the host country, the Sultanate of Oman.
