Ambassador Al-Dahhak: The Security Council Demands an End to the Occupation’s Aggression Against Syria, Palestine and Lebanon
The Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations, Ambassador Kusay Al-Dahak, stressed that the Security Council must act immediately to halt the Israeli occupying entity’s attacks against Syrian territory and ensure that they do not recur. He stressed the need for the council to take firm and immediate measures and to issue a clear and inexplicable resolution obliging the occupation to stop its aggression against Palestine and Lebanon, and to restrain the entity and counter its attempts to invade Lebanese territory.
During a meeting of the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, Ambassador Al-Dahhak stated: “The Israeli occupation authorities do not listen to your Council, continue to disregard the United Nations and international law, commit further acts of aggression and brutal crimes and continue to shed the blood of innocent civilians.”
“This barbaric Israeli behavior, the expansion of its aggression to Lebanon and the intensification of its aggression against Syrian territory and other States in the region are the result of the occupation authorities’ belief that there are those in this Council who prevent it from fulfilling its mandate and taking any active steps to stop the aggression and put an end to Israeli crimes. The council’s inability and procrastination regarding the situation in Gaza might well be repeated in the case of Lebanon -this should be avoided at all costs ,” he stressed.
Al-Dahhak went on to say, “It is unacceptable and even shameful that some in this council, who have set themselves up as defenders of human rights, do not see any harm in the occupation entity’s disregard for the principles and purposes of the charter and violation of the provisions of international law, rather it distorts the facts to make the criminal a victim, and blatant aggression is an alleged exercise of self-defense, and does not hesitate to provide various forms of support to enable the occupation entity to continue its acts of aggression and its brutal crimes, and threaten regional and international peace and security.”
“The deliberate targeting of civilians and the intensive use of heavy weapons and bombs with enormous destructive potential in city centers and residential neighborhoods crowded with civilians, and the accompanying calls by occupation officials for mass murder and the use of prohibited weapons, including those of mass destruction, clearly reflect the aggressive nature of the occupation and its criminal practices that have destabilized the security and stability of the region for decades and prevented its people from living in an atmosphere of well-being and prosperity.
In conjunction with the escalation of Israel’s aggression against Lebanon, the Israeli occupation authorities have intensified their attacks on Syrian territory to almost daily, and over the past few days demolished a number of residential buildings in the capital, Damascus, resulting in the martyrdom of 15 civilians, mostly women and children.
These Israeli attacks also targeted the international road linking Damascus and Beirut, which is used by thousands of people coming from Lebanon every day to escape the Israeli killing machine, which caused additional suffering for them, exacerbating their humanitarian suffering caused by displacement. The Israeli attacks also affected economic facilities and a center for collecting food and medical assistance for those arriving from Lebanon in the industrial city of Hassia.” He added.
“Stressing the Syrian Arab Republic’s right to defend its territorial integrity by all means guaranteed by international law, we call upon the Security Council to act immediately to halt such attacks and to ensure that they do not recur.
My country reiterates its strong solidarity with brotherly Lebanon, which is facing an emergency human tragedy as a result of Israel’s aggression.
Despite the challenges it faces and the unilateral and inhumane coercive measures, Syria has taken the necessary measures to provide humanitarian assistance to all Lebanese, Syrian and third-country arrivals, whose numbers exceed 350 thousand, including some 100.000 Lebanese and thousands of Arab and foreign arrivals.” Al-Dahhak added.
