Completion of restoration and rehabilitation works for the tenth tower in Busra Al-Sham castle in the eastern countryside of Daraa

Daraa(ST)-The Art workshops at the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums completed the restoration and rehabilitation works of the tenth tower of the ancient Bosra castle.

The Head of the Bosra Antiquities Department, Alaa Al-Salah said that the works included addressing the dangerous structural conditions in the tower’s walls by dismantling and rebuilding the stone courses and injecting the cracks in the western wall with mortar and traditional materials of ground basalt, ash, lime and sand similar to the mortar used in archaeological construction.

He added that the ends of the walls were vaulted to limit the leakage of rainwater between the stones of the courses, thus ending the structural deterioration of the tower’s walls.

Dipping works were also carried out on some surfaces after cleaning them of dust and weeds to prevent leaks into the internal basements.

Eng. Surour Qandil, the supervisor of the works confirmed that the restoration operations were also carried out through cladding and al-kohling in the traditional archaeological line, by specialists, between the stones of the courses and the entire western facade to preserve the archaeological character that is consistent with the rest of the castle towers.

He pointed out that the works  ended in the first  phase of the Abu al-Fida School and began in the second phase, which includes the rehabilitation of the dome and kohling the walls after plastering them in preparation for their restoration.
