Syria, Iran Discuss Boosting Electricity Cooperation

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Minister of Electricity Emad Khamis on Sunday stressed Syria’s keenness to boost cooperation with Iran, particularly in the field of electric power.

Khamis, who was speaking during a meeting with representatives of the Iranian Energy Ministry and a number of companies working in the field of electricity, thanked Iran for its support to the Syrian people in the confrontation of the malicious global conspiracy hatched against Syria.

“Pending issues between the two countries should be settled and obstacle facing electricity cooperation must be eliminated to serve mutual interests and maintain the rights of both sides,” said the minister.

He added “the ministry seeks establishing strong economic relations with Iranian companies,” pointing out that preparations to sign an all-out long-term agreement on building electric power generation stations in Syria and importing the requirements of the Syrian electricity networks from Iran are underway.

Tayseer al-Zou’bi, the Cabinet Secretary General and head of the Syrian side in the Syrian-Iranian follow up and development committee, affirmed keen efforts to implement the directives of the leaderships in Syria and Iran on enhancing the economic ties between the two countries to be as distinguished as the political ties.

For their part, the Iranian officials asserted the need to solve the problems which faced previous contracts between the Syrian electricity Ministry and Iranian companies.
