Euro-Med: Israeli occupation destroys Palestinian farmland to starve the population

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor confirmed that the Israeli occupation’s destruction of hundreds of dunums of vegetable farmland in the northern Gaza Strip reflects the Zionist insistence on the collective extermination of Palestinians at a time when Israel continues to besiege the Strip and severely restrict the entry of food supplies for about a year.

The Monitor said in a statement today: “This destruction comes within the framework of a systematic Israeli plan since last October, where the Israeli forces worked to remove nearly 80 percent of the agricultural land area from service by destroying or bulldozing it.”

The Monitor pointed out that the occupation entity has worked systematically and extensively over the past year to destroy the food basket of vegetables, fruits, meat, and all other components of local food production, in parallel with preventing the entry of food and humanitarian aid, as part of the Israeli dedication to famine in the Gaza Strip, as part of the ongoing crime of genocide since October 7.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor documented the deliberate killing of many farmers by the occupation army while they were working or trying to reach their lands and farms, in addition to destroying thousands of farms, greenhouses, water wells and their tanks, and agricultural equipment stores, in addition to killing a number of fishermen and destroying fishing ports and the majority of fishing boats since the beginning of the aggression, which indicates that the Zionist entity deliberately destroyed the necessities of life and survival without any necessity, which will have an impact on providing adequate healthy food for more than 2.2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The Monitor pointed out that as a result of the continued bombing and incursion into many areas, farmers are unable to reach their lands, while other areas cannot be cultivated and irrigated with water due to the lack of electricity, the destruction of water wells, and the lack of sufficient fuel.

The Observatory stressed that the ongoing Israeli aggression has dire consequences on public health, the environment, agricultural lands, water quality, soil, and air, while the effects of this interact cumulatively, and at a certain point we may witness terrifying jumps in the number of death cases.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor called on the international community to intervene immediately and seriously to stop the genocide committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip by directly killing Palestinians or by killing them through imposing living conditions that lead to their actual destruction, depriving them of any chance of survival and life, and making the Gaza Strip a place devoid of the basic elements of survival and housing. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor renewed its call to the international community to ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, including the entry of basic food and non-food items necessary to respond to the humanitarian disaster immediately, safely and effectively.
