DAMASCUS,(ST)- Following is a brief account on the Professional Soccer League 2nd leg 5th round.

Jihad,new comer to 1stdivision, defeated Musfat banias 2-0 at the Tishreen stadium in Damascus.

Striker Mohammad Issa broke the deadlock in the 50th minute with a closae-range shot.

One minute left before the final whistle, Omar Aziz made it 2-0 only to lift his side’s tally to 16 points and remained in 5th place in par with Wathba.

Back to the match, Jihad presented an impressive performance in the second half where they capitalized on many mistakes committed by MusfatBanias players.

Musfat appeared in poor shape and failed to convert any chance.

In other actions, Nawaeer beat Hurria 2-0 at the Tishreen stadium in Damascus.

Nawaeer opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Anas Shawa. Hurria then intensified their pressure with the aim of amending the score but to no avail.

Five minutes into the final whistle, Tarref Zeidi scored the second goal.

With this result, Nawaeer lifted their tally to 16 points.

Bashar Qadour’s late goal gave his side al-Majd an emphatic victory over Wathba at the Muhafaza stadium in Damascus.

With this win, Majd lifted their tally to 18 points.

Tishreen were held to a goalless draw with Omaya at the Faiha stadium in Damascus.

Position to date after the end of the 5th round:

Shurta 20; MusfatBanias 19; Majd 18; Tishreen 17; Wathba 16; Jihad 16; Wathba 16; Nawaeer 16; Jihad 12; Hurria 12 and finally Omaya with only 12 points behind Hurria on goal difference.
