The International Conference on Oral History continues its final day activities

Muscat, (ST) – The International Conference on Oral History held in the Omani capital Muscat continued its third and final day’s activities, with the participation of a number of researchers and specialists in the field of documentation and oral history.

The lectures of the third day of the conference, organized by the Syrian Wathiqat Watan Foundation and the Omani Documents and Archives Authority, fall within the “Future Axis”: Prospects of the Arab experience in oral history.

The first session will be chaired by Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Hilal Al-Kharousi with the participation of the Chairman of the Syrian Library and Documentation Association at Damascus University, Dr. Issa Al-Assafeen, the lecturer in the Department of Sociology at Damascus University, Dr. Amal Dakak, and the Project Manager at the Watan Documentation Foundation, Mr. Musa Al-Khoury.

The lectures will address the topics of oral history as a source of information in historical studies, the experience of the Master’s degree in qualification and specialization in folklore implemented at Damascus University, and the mechanisms for issuing an Arab journal in oral history, authorship and translation.

As for the second session of today’s lectures and the last in the conference activities, it will be chaired by Dr. Aisha bint Hamad Al-Darmaki, with the participation of the founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Watan Documentation Foundation, Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, and the Chairman of the Omani National Records and Archives Authority, Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Dhuwayani, where their lectures will discuss the future visions of oral history in the Arab experience.

It is noteworthy that in conjunction with the lectures of the first session, the Special Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Buthaina Shaaban will give a lecture at the Diplomatic Academy of the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs entitled “Where is our region and the world heading and why?”, in the presence of the Head of the Arab Department at the Omani Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Faisal bin Omar Al-Marhoon, the Head of the Omani National Records and Archives Authority, Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Dhuwayani, and a crowd of those concerned with political affairs.

The conference, which began its activities the day before yesterday in the conference hall of the “Grand Millennium” Hotel in the Al-Khuwair area in the Omani capital, Muscat, is held under the title “The International Conference on Oral History the Concept and Experience in the Arab World.”

It is noteworthy that the Syrian delegation participating in organizing the conference and presenting research and lectures, headed by the founder and head of the Board of Trustees of the Wathiqat Watan Foundation, Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, includes representatives and researchers from several Syrian institutions, including the Syrian Trust for Development, the University of Damascus, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Information.

The conference included institutions, researchers, and specialists in documentation and history from several Arab and international countries, with approximately 300 participants from various entities and nationalities, and most Omani government agencies were also attending.
