Dashti calls for ending the work of the Commission of Inquiry on Syria or reformulating its mandate

Geneva, (ST)-

President of  the International Council to Support Fair Trial and Human Rights Abdul Hamid Dashti stressed the necessity for the Human Rights Council to end the work of the Commission of Inquiry on Syria or to reformulate its mandate and revise its mechanisms so that it works in accordance with the orientations of the majority of member states after the positive steps taken by many countries to restore relations with Syria.

Dashti explained in a statement during the interactive dialogue with the Commission of Inquiry on Syria within the 57th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva that “the Commission is still singing out of tune, as Syria is proceeding in confronting internal and external challenges to ensure the future of the homeland and the people, and it is setting the best examples of cooperation with the United Nations bodies with all respect and appreciation, as Syria is an active and founding member of the United Nations, in commitment to the UN Charter and the resolutions of international legitimacy, despite the pain and wounds caused by member states of the United Nations to the Syrian people over more than a decade of aggression”.

Dashti pointed out that this commitment on the part of Syria is met with the arrogance of the Israeli occupation entity, which continues its aggression against Syria and Lebanon, and commits war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip, which requires the Human Rights Council to take a position in line with the United Nations Charter and the resolutions of international legitimacy.
