The First Dates Exhibition Kicks off in Al-Jalaa city, Deir ez-Zor countryside  

Al-Jalaa city in Deir Ezzor countryside hosted the First Dates Festival, which is held in cooperation between the local community and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The FAO coordinator in Deir Ezzor, engineer Abdul Hakim al-Dewani, said that the exhibition is being held as a joint initiative between the local community and the organization in coordination with the field schools opened by FAO to develop palm cultivation.

He pointed out that the aim of this exhibition is to support farmers economically by displaying and marketing their products, and technically to introduce the types of dates grown in the region, their varieties, how to grow them and ways to increase their productivity.

The head of the Department of Agriculture in Al-Jalaa city Akram Al-Ramadan stated that  more than 120 farmers from palm fields in the region of Al-Bukamal are taking part in the exhibition to show their products of various types of dates that the region is known for and the traditional and modern ways of manufacturing and preserving them. He noted that the region of Al-Bukamal is known for many varieties of dates, the most important of which are al-Majhoul and al-Barhi.

A number of participants noted that holding the exhibition gave them the opportunity to introduce and market their local production of dates and to learn about new varieties that can be expanded in the future due to their productive and marketing advantages.
