Russian Foreign Ministry: UN General Assembly Resolution on Ending Israeli Occupation of Palestinian Territories is an Important Step

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the United Nations General Assembly adoption of a resolution demanding an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories is an important step towards recognizing that the practices of the Israeli occupation entity are illegal.

“We proceed from the fact that the adoption of the current General Assembly resolution was an important step towards the recognition by the international community of the illegal nature of Israeli practices, and it will contribute to advancing efforts aimed at developing measures in the interests of adhering to international law and ending the longest occupation in modern history,” the Russian foreign Ministry said in a statement quoted by Russia Today website .

“In this regard, we are forced to note once again with regret the absence of such important resolutions on the part of the UN Security Council due to the United States.”  As it is well known, during the past period, Washington has vetoed five times , often on its own , with regard to the council’s draft resolutions on the ceasefire and the admission of Palestine to membership in the United Nations,” the statement added.

Yesterday, the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted a resolution calling on the Israeli entity to end its occupation of Palestinian territories within 12 months, based on an advisory opinion requested by the General Assembly from the International Court of Justice on the legal implications of the occupying Power’s “Israel” policies and practices in Palestine.
