DAMASCUS, (ST)_ Competent authorities seized, in the farms area in Palmyra, five artifacts excavated illegally by armed terrorist groups with the aim of smuggling them out of Syria.
A source in Homs told SANA that these pieces, dating back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries, comprise the statues of two priests and busts of a lady and two men.
In a statement to SANA, Mr. Walid Al-Assaad, the director of antiquities in Palmyra said that the directorate of antiquities is working to implement a plan in cooperation with the concerned authorities to preserve the archaeological sites and the museum.
“The plan includes beefing up security of the archaeological sites’ doors with additional bolted doors to protect them from any attack they could face due to the current circumstances,”
