Foreign Ministry: The so-called US National Endowment for Democracy aims at undermining states’ power and interfering in their affairs

Damascus, (ST) -Syria has stressed that one of the main soft tools used by the US administration to pass its hypocrisy regarding protecting democracy is the so-called National Endowment for Democracy (NED), which works, under the false cover of democracy, on practices that aim at undermining the powers of states, interfering in their internal affairs, inciting division and strife, and misleading public opinion in them.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Wednesday that while Western countries, led by the United States, brag about the concepts of freedom of expression and democracy, and silence the voice of truth called for by the peoples of their countries in support of the Palestinian right in the face of Zionist criminality, the West continues to exploit the concept of spreading, protecting, and strengthening democracy as a tool to subjugate the countries of the world and break the will of peoples.

One of the most prominent soft tools used by the US administration, through its intelligence, governmental and legislative apparatuses, to pass its hypocrisy in protecting democracy, is the so-called “National Endowment for Democracy (NED). The ministry added. It explained that since its establishment in 1983, the NED has been working under the false cover of democracy, on practices aimed at undermining the authorities of states, interfering in their internal affairs, inciting division and strife, and misleading public opinion in them.

The Syrian Arab Republic, which has suffered over the past 13 years from a global war that aimed at destroying the state and breaking the will of its people under the pretext of the West’s false claim of protecting and promoting democracy, similar to those practiced by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) in many countries of the world, believes that it is its historical duty to expose the practices of this destructive institution and alert the countries of the world to its danger and threat to global peace and stability.

Based on the above, the Syrian Arab Republic supports the report issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China on 9-8-2024 under the title “National Endowment for Democracy (NED), what it is and what it does”, as it reveals the practices of this destructive entity aimed at destroying countries from within and breaking the will of their peoples in implementation of the political agendas of the American administration in a manner that contradicts the principles of international legitimacy, human rights, and international law standards.
