“Wathiqat Watan” and the Omani National Records and Archives Authority…Two Rich Experiences in Oral History

Damascus (ST) – “Wathiqat Watan” and the Omani National Records and Archives Authority Foundation are cooperating to hold the International Oral History Conference on September 23, which will show their rich experience in the field of documentation and heritage preservation.

The “Wathiqat Watan” Foundation began building its rich experience in 2016 with the aim of transfering and preserving the facts of the war that Syria has been exposed to, particulatly in the light of the forgery and distortion that occurred during this war.

The Foundation’s experience developed to extend to several topics within the oral history approach, including intangible heritage and the various aspects of Syrian culture.

For its part, the National Records and Archives Authority has been a pioneer at the Arab level in the field of documentation. It began its work in 2007 and it has its own advanced program for the practical organization of this field, while encouraging related research works and developing mechanisms for collecting documents from external parties.

The two foundations aim through organizing the upcoming international conference to adopt a scientific methodology that links the field of oral history to educational curricula and makes it a basis for the work of the institutions concerned with oral history, and to reach to a point that makes history a reliable culture among Arab peoples.
