International calls for stopping the war on Gaza and delivering humanitarian aid

Sigrid Kaag, Senior Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and reconstruction in Gaza stressed the need for continuous and unhindered access of humanitarian aids into Gaza.

Yesterday, Kaag explained in a briefing to the Security Council that the situation in Gaza is “gloomy and sad”. She stressed the “deep responsibility” that the international community bears in addressing the humanitarian tragedy that the Strip is experiencing, which has led to the collapse of basic services, including health care and education.

The UN official pointed to the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Strip since October 7. She added: “More than 22,000 people in Gaza suffer from life-changing injuries, in addition to serious limb injuries ranging between 13,000 and 17,000 cases”.

In turn, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services, Jorge Moreira da Silva, stressed the crucial and indispensable role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in delivering aid to the people of Gaza Strip. He renewed the United Nations’ support for humanitarian efforts in Gaza Strip despite the difficult working environment resulting from the ongoing aggression against it.

In turn, Algeria Permanent representative to the United Nations Amar Benjamaa, called on the Security Council to confront the bitter reality and deliver aid to the residents of Gaza Strip.

He added: “We have many challenges ahead of us and we must work to ensure the return of stability to Gaza and ensure plans for comprehensive and well-coordinated reconstruction. We must work tirelessly to reach a ceasefire and work for a more prosperous future”.

For his part, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, explained that the war on Gaza Strip continues in complete disregard of human rights law and Security Council resolutions.

He pointed out that the voices of humanitarian workers in the Strip indicate that the humanitarian aid that arrives, such as medical equipment and fuel, is insufficient due to the obstacles imposed by the occupation and its rejection of aid operations.

Nebenzia warned that the continued deterioration of the situation in the Strip could lead to the end of UN operations, calling on the Security Council to work hard to prevent the goast of famine to reach two million Palestinians in the Strip.

For his part, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, warned that the humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip is constantly deteriorating, stressing the need to work to reach ceasefire and deliver humanitarian aid.
