Russia and GCC countries reaffirm the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity

Russia and the GCC Countries reaffirmed the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity and to continue effective efforts to overcome the consequences of the crisis there, including reconstruction and the return of the displaced to their homeland.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement yesterday: “The seventh ministerial meeting of the strategic dialogue between the Russian Federation and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which was held in Riyadh yesterday, discussed the situation in Syria and emphasized its sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity. The meeting also stressed the importance of continuing effective efforts to contribute to overcoming the consequences of the crisis over many years, including post-crisis reconstruction and the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland”.

The Russian Foreign Ministry added: “The meeting also referred to the importance of providing the necessary conditions for this, including the cancellation of unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria, as stipulated in the final document of the Arab League summit held in Manama last May”.
