Syrian-Iranian talks on cooperation in the fields scientific research, scholarships

Damascus (ST) – Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the caretaker government Bassam Ibrahim and the Iranian Ambassador to Damascus, Hussein Akbari, and the accompanying delegation, discussed scientific and research cooperation relations, the work of the Joint Committee for Scientific Exchange and Scholarships for the current academic year, and the mechanisms for activating the executive program signed between the two countries.

Minister Ibrahim noted the distinguished relations between the two countries in the field of higher education and scientific research and enhancing joint cooperation between universities. He pointed to the support provided by the Iranian side in terms of providing scholarships for Syrian students to continue their education in the first university stage and postgraduate studies, exchanging experiences, holding scientific conferences, and publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Minister Ibrahim pointed to the importance of establishing a joint mechanism to resolve the issues of Syrian and Iranian students, and removing all obstacles facing them to pursue their education, indicating the importance of benefiting from the developments witnessed by Iran at the scientific and technical level in a number of precise specializations and directing scholarships to those specializations.

In turn, Ambassador Akbari noted the importance of cooperation with Syria in the scientific and research field, and the necessity of developing appropriate solutions to facilitate the reception of students and researchers in both countries and the holding of joint scientific conferences.

Akbari  stressed the role played by the governments of the two countries in supporting the implementation of scientific and research programs within the framework of joint cooperation agreements.
