AMMAN-The displaced Syrians in al-Zaatari camp in northern Jordan yesterday protested the bad living conditions and ill treatment. The protest developed into clashes with the Jordanian security forces which used tear gas to disperse the protesters, causing injuries to three displaced persons and 22 security personnel.
The accurate number of victims among the displaced Syrians was unknown, but AFP quoted the residents in the camp as saying that at least on resident was killed; a matter that was denied by the Jordanian security body.
A resident said that clashes in the camp between the “refugees” and the Jordanian police forces were agitated by a quarrel on new tough security measures against the displaced for smuggling pretexts.
The camp has been witnessing almost daily protests over living conditions and bad services the Syrians suffer there.
A statement by the Jordanian Security Media Center accused the displaced Syrians of riot and of attacking properties and security sites inside the camp.
The statement said the general security and police force “won’t allow any assault on law or on public and private properties.”
News report stress that the displaced Syrians, who left their areas in Syria as a result of the armed terrorist groups’ acts, are suffering critical living conditions ad ill treatment by Jordanian authorities in al-Zaatari camp which lacks the minimum elements of good life.
