Displaced Families Start Gradual Return to Yabroud after Syrian Army Uprooted Terrorism from the Town
DAMASCUS, (ST)-The displaced people of Yabroud town in Qalamoun of Damascus countryside yesterday started a gradual return to their houses after the Syrian Arab army had uprooted terrorism and restored security and peace to the town.
Many displaced families coming from the cities of Damascus, Homs, Nabek and neighboring towns returned leading their way towards Yabroud feeling, for the first time, fearless and unworried over the safety of their children, as the Syrian army had eliminated the terrorist groups which used to terrorize them and ransack their properties.
The fast government’s action to rehabilitate the town’s infrastructure as well as the electricity, water and phone networks has contributed to the speedy return of Yabroud people to start a normal life.
Daily threats
Rineh Fransis, born, brought up, got married and had a family in a Yabroud district, was displaced from Yabroud by force after terrorists asked her several times to leave the town.
“They used to come every day threatening us of killing if we don’t leave. Feeling frightened, we left leaving everything behind and those terrorists occupied our house, ransacked it as if they wanted to take revenge of us, but why? We don’t know,” Mrs. Fransis told SANA correspondent.
Her husband’s feeling of pain wasn’t less than hers for having their house ransacked, but his happiness was so clear for the return of security to the town.
“We knew that the Syrian Army forces would come soon to clear our town from terrorists and they did. Today, we are sleeping here so we need to fix the house,” the husband said.
Tears of happiness
The tears of bitterness shed by the people of Yabroud while leaving their town, turned into tears of happiness as they were approaching Yabroud entrance leading their way towards their houses.
“I cried because of happiness as I came back to my house which I, along with my family, was coerced to leave fleeing killing by the terrorists,” Najah al-Nimr, a house wife, said.
Abdulla Qassis, a tailor, looked with pain at his ransacked shop where he used to practice his profession for long years.
“The people of Yabroud suffered a lot from the armed groups. We were displaced and left everything behind, but now we return to see that the terrorists had stolen and destroyed our properties,” Qassis added, stressing that the most important thing is that we are back thanks to the Syrian Army’s sacrifices and heroic deeds and we will start again.
“We fled the atrocities and threats of the terrorists and go to Homs, but now we are back home and this is the source of my happiness,” said Judiet Haddad, a resident, with a sweet smile on her face, adding that this is the first time in five months she sees her house and feel safe.
One can feel the warmth of neighborhood relations between the people of Yabroud while they congratulate each other on their safe return.
Beehive-like maintenance workshops
The beehive-like technical workshops of Damascus Countryside governorate are sparing no effort to complete providing all the services necessary to ensure a stable and secure life to the citizens.
Samer Shehada, Chairman of Yabroud City Council, said that “almost 70% of the needed services are ready now,” adding that the rest part will be completed soon amid expectations that all the displaced people of Yabroud will return within a week.
