WHO: Thousands of children in Gaza facing severe malnutrition crisis

GENEVA – The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that thousands of children in Gaza are at risk of severe malnutrition, with approximately 15,000 children in the war-torn region suffering from malnutrition, according to WAFA News Agency.

In a press statement, WHO pointed out that among these children, 3,288 are suffering from acute malnutrition. This figure comes after the examination of around 240,000 children in the region since the beginning of this year.

WHO is currently supporting four facilities dedicated to treating malnutrition in the enclave, including a center at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza.

A medical source from Kamal Adwan Hospital stated that nearly 5,000 children have been recorded with symptoms of malnutrition. Of these, one-third exhibit signs of severe malnutrition. Alarmingly, 25% of these cases have not received intensive treatment due to the severity of their condition, which includes complications.

The source added, “The influx of cases with complications indicates that this is a critical stage – potentially a prelude to death if immediate intervention is not provided.”
