Ambassador Akhtar: Syrian-Pakistani Relations are Historic and the Two Countries’ Positions are Identical at All International Forums
Damascus –(ST)- The Embassy of the Republic of Pakistan in Damascus held a reception Wednesday evening on the occasion of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day at the Golden Mezzeh Hotel in Damascus.
In his speech, the Pakistani Ambassador in Damascus Shahid Akhtar stressed that the relations between his country and Syria are historical and deeply rooted, noting that Pakistan stood by Syria and its people against all those who conspired to weaken it.
Ambassador Akhtar praised the steadfastness of the Syrian people and said, “The world is aware of the grave injustice committed against Syria and its people, as everyone is witnessing a change in vision and thinking.”
The ambassador pointed out that cooperation between the two countries during the past few years was enhanced and memoranda of understanding were signed in various fields such as economy, defense, information technology and tourism.
For his part, Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Mohammad Hassan Qatana, stressed that the distinguished relations between the two countries express the common principles that Syria and Pakistan believe in in the face of global challenges and military and political interventions in the internal affairs of other countries.
Qatana noted Pakistan’s position and support for Syria and its right to defend its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to combat terrorism.
Pakistan also supported the Palestinian cause and the return of the occupied Syrian Golan, in the light of what our people in the occupied Arab territories are being subjected to due to the usurping Israeli aggression, he clarified.
The ceremony was attended by the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic, Mansour Azzam, a number of directors of departments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, ambassadors, and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Syria.
