China: The United States must urge “Israel” to stop military operations in Gaza

New York,(ST)- China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong called on the United States to take sincere and responsible measures to push Israel to stop its military operations in Gaza.

Cong said according to Xinhua, during a session of the UN Security Council last night: We strongly condemn the Israeli attack on the Tabeen School in Gaza City, which resulted in the killing of more than 100 Palestinians.

He stressed that civilians and civilian infrastructure should not be the target of military operations and that this is a red line under international humanitarian law.

“Attacking schools where a large number of civilians are taking refuge is a heinous act, and an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza is the consensus of the international community”, Cong added

Cong called on Washington, as the largest arms supplier, to take sincere and responsible measures, stressing that the key to avoiding the deterioration and escalation of the situation lies in achieving a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in Gaza without delay.

He added that his country will work tirelessly to alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza Strip and achieve long-term peace, stability and security in the Middle East.

The UN Security Council held an emergency open session last night at the request of Algeria and in consultation with the State of Palestine following the massacre committed by the Israeli occupation by bombing the Al-Tabeen school, which shelters displaced persons in the Al-Daraj neighborhood in Gaza City last Saturday, which resulted in the martyrdom of more than 100 Palestinians and the injury of hundreds.
