Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Bassam Ibrahim discussed with the representative of the United Nations Population Fund UNFPA in Syria Muriel Mavico and the accompanying delegation, mechanisms for enhancing joint cooperation in the scientific field, vocational and training qualification as well as supporting scientific research in the medical and community fields.
Minister Ibrahim noted the support of the UNFPA fir Syria during the war and the Western economic siege imposed on it, pointing to the efforts made by the Fund to support educational hospitals and provide them with medical consumables and equipment, especially Al-Baath University Hospital, which the fund equipped with a special maternity ward, by providing incubators and intensive care requirements.
Ibrahim stressed the joint desire to develop the existing cooperation between the two sides, and the Ministry’s readiness to provide the facilities and capabilities available in universities and hospitals to carry out joint scientific research programs and workshops that contribute to supporting the process of sustainable development.
In turn, Representative of UNFPA affirmed that the Fund would continue to provide support in all fields, to achieve national development goals in the field of population, development and health care, noting the importance of the research that was supported by the Ministry and the Fund, related to sociology, reproductive health and some issues that the society suffers from.
