The Oman Film Society, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Sultanate of Oman and the Social Club of the Syrian Community, organized a cinematic event entitled “Syrian Nights Films” at the headquarters of the Omani Film Society in Muscat.
The cinematic nights included the screening of six short films that won international awards, directed by Almohannad Kalthoum.

On the first day, the documentary film “Yasmine” was screened. It deals with the situation of children affected by the war on Syria and the impacts of this war on their dreams and ideas. The short narrative film “On the Roof of Damascus” written by Samer Mohammed Ismail was also screened and deals with the story of a generation who lives virtual life and faces challenges in achieving their aims in reality that was affected by the war. In addition, the short film “The Journey of Syrian Silk”, which tells the story of the stages of silk production in Syria in the traditional way, was also screened. It is considered an attempt to transfer the Syrian heritage and cultural legacy to the world.
On the second day, three short films were screened, the first of which was “Photograph” and the short documentary film “The Spirit of the East” which documents the intangible heritage in Syria and the short narrative film “Nahri Bahri” which raises questions about the societies affected by the repercussions of the war on Syria.

The event was attended by Dr. Idris Maya, Ambassador of Syria to the Sultanate of Oman, and Dr. Mohamed Ali Boughazi, Ambassador of Algeria to the Sultanate of Oman.
At the end of the event, the Omani Cinema Society administration honored Dr. Idris Maya, Dr. Firas Bakour, chairman of the Social Club of the Syrian Community, and Director Almohannad Kalthoum with commemorative shields in appreciation of their role in activating the cultural and artistic life in the two countries.
The Oman Film Society aims, through the monthly cinema nights, to raise awareness about the seventh art as part of culture and encourage people to enjoy cinema as a means of artistic expression. The Society also aims to screen films from different cultures and countries to enhance understanding and cultural cooperation, spread culture and art, strengthen social ties, and encourage constructive dialogue.
