The Syrian Arab Army a history of honorable struggle and heroism

Since its establishment in 1945, the Syrian Arab Army has dedicated its doctrine and embodied the aspirations of the masses, not only in Syria but throughout the Arab world.

The Syrian Arab Army has proven in the battlefields that it is truly a national army, writing down history with the sacrifices of the martyrs, the heroism of the wounded, and the determination of the hero Syrians. It has a history that is full of pages of honorable struggle and battles of heroism and it continues to fight in defense of the dignity of the homeland and the nation.

After the success of the Arab Revolution in achieving independence and emancipation from the Ottoman occupation in most Arab countries, especially in Syria, the formation of an independent Arab government was announced in 1918. This was the beginning of the formation of a national army whose first duty was to confront the French occupation forces in the Battle of Maysalun in 1920.

Shortly after the establishment of the Syrian Arab Army in 1945, developments in the Palestinian issue forced the establishment of what was called the Salvation Army to head to Palestine to confront the Israeli occupation.

When the tripartite aggression against Egypt began by the armies of Britain, France and the Zionist entity in 1956, the Syrian Arab Army also recorded a decisive and remarkable presence in defending sisterly Egypt, and the Syrian naval officer Joul Jammal was able to sink the French naval destroyer Jean Bart, in parallel with army units blowing up oil pipelines passing through Syrian territory to prevent the aggressor countries from being supplied with Arab oil, which was a major reason for stopping this aggression.

Since the first days of the Correction Movement, led by the founding leader Hafez al-Assad on on November 16, 1970, a military agreement was signed with Egypt to begin the liberation war. Also the friendship relations with the Soviet Union were strengthened at the time to build the armed forces.

The army’s strength increased and the strategic decision was made to begin the October Liberation War on the Syrian and Egyptian fronts.

The Syrian army continued its national role, confronting the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in June 1982.

Later, it provided unlimited support to the resistance movements in Palestine and Lebanon until the Lebanese resistance was able to achieve liberation in the year 2000.

Seventy-nine years and the men of the Syrian Arab Army hold their rifles and their fingers on the trigger, their eyes on liberating the entire territory of Syria from terrorism and the occupied Syrian Arab Golan from the Israeli occupation. Golan is still in the hearts of Syrians and it is the compass of the struggle until it is liberated from the usurping Zionist entity.

And now, on the seventy-ninth anniversary of its foundation, the Syrians recall a glorious history made by the brave men of this army, men who wrote epics of pride and glory, epics that illuminate the coming days and plant in the paths of generations torches of light that illuminate the memory of the nation and push its sons to greater effort, perseverance, sacrifice and giving to preserve the homeland and defend its soil.
