Syria condemns the Israeli entity’s accusation against UNRWA of practicing terrorism

Damascus- Syria has strongly condemned the Israeli occupation entity’s accusation against UNRWA of practicing terrorism, stressing that this move is part of the occupation’s attempts to end the role of this organization, to cover up the crimes and atrocities it is committing in Gaza and the West Bank and to liquidate the rights of the Palestinian refugees in diaspora.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Tuesday that the so-called “Israeli Knesset”, issued a disgraceful decision, classifying the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization, in order to prevent this important agency from performing its humanitarian role in providing the minimum services to UNRWA’s areas of operation inside and outside Palestine.

The statement clarified that the United Nations General Assembly decided, after the Nakba, to establish UNRWA with the aim of implementing the rights of Palestinian refugees and to find a just solution in accordance with international law and United Nations resolutions, especially Resolution No. 194, which affirms the right of the Palestinian refugees to return to their homes from which they were expelled.

The false and shameful allegations made by the Zionist entity accusing one of the important UN agencies that perform humanitarian services, and describing it as terrorism, will later lead to accusing the United Nations itself of terrorism, as well as any other international organization that defends Palestinian human rights and international humanitarian law that recognizes the rights of the Palestinian people, the ministry went on to say.

Syrian, as a host country of about half a million Palestinians since the late 1940s until now, calls on all countries in the world that have supported UNRWA for more than 70 years to condemn such Zionist decisions and to continue their political and financial support for UNRWA, the ministry affirmed, pointing out that Syria reiterates its support for UNRWA’s activities in Occupied Palestine and outside and in its workplaces in neighboring Arab countries.
