Presidents Al-Assad and Putin exchange congratulations on 80th anniversary of establishing Syrian-Russian diplomatic relations

President Bashar Al Assad and Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged cables of congratulation on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Syria and the Russian Federation.
President Al-Assad stressed that the two countries have exchanged support for 80 years and have remained committed to principles and dignity despite being subjected to all forms of pressure and attempts to subjugate and break their will and that Russia’s firm position now contributes to establishing a multi-polar world. He stressed that “the hegemony we are facing and the war we are experiencing has no room for concessions, and the final word is for steadfastness, not for retreat and defeat.
In a telegram on behalf of the Syrian people and on his own, President Al-Assad expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the friendly people of Russia, which, over decades, have woven strong ties with the Syrian people which established mutual trust and understanding, created mingling between the two societies and enriched bilateral relations.

President Putin, in turn, stressed that Russia is determined to continue its steadfast support for Syria in its quest to defend its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and to ensure the country’s national security and stability. In his telegram, Putin stressed that the continued development of the Russian-Syrian relations is fully consistent with the interests of the peoples of the two countries and is in line with the approach of promoting peace and stability at the regional and international levels.

President Putin congratulated the Syrian leadership and people on this occasion, wishing well-being and prosperity for the Syrian people. He said that Moscow and Damascus had acquired during the past decades rich experience in bilateral cooperation in many different fields, and that, thanks to the joint efforts, notable successes had been achieved in combating the forces of international terrorism on Syrian territory.
