Syria, South Africa to strengthen economic cooperation

DAMASCUS, (ST) – The Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Khider Orfali, has underlined the need to enhance prospects of bilateral cooperation with the Republic of South Africa in the fields of economy, trade and investment by increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries.

During a meeting with South African Ambassador in Damascus Shaun Benfeldt yesterday, the minister pointed to the importance of deepening the relations between Syria and southern Africa to achieve a partnership that reflects positively on the joint development between the two countries and mapping out the scientific basis for the implementation of the agreement, which was signed in 2010 between the two countries that accelerates the pace of joint economic action.

Dr. Orfali called businessmen in South Africa to invest in Syria and contribute to the reconstruction phase which will be witnessed by Syria soon, noting the positions of South Africa’s support for Syria in international forums. 

For his part, the ambassador stressed his country’s keenness to establish better economic trade relations and investment with Syria and convey all proposals and visions to strengthen those relationships to his government to address them according to fruitful principles.
