Syrian Lawyers stress that Participation in People’s Assembly elections strengthens their role in law-making

Damascus, (ST) – Syrian lawyers have stressed that participation in the People’s Assembly elections is a necessity being the right and a duty of every citizen, guaranteed by the Syrian constitution. They clarified that their participation as representatives of law and justice is to deliver their voice to the parliament, and to strengthen their presence in this legislative institution, especially since their work is in this field.

The lawyers pointed out that the Syrian constitution guaranteed the freedom of voters to choose their representatives to the People’s Assembly, as well as the integrity and honesty of electoral procedures. They pointed to the importance of effective participation from various groups in the elections, which will be held on the 15th of this month to choose the most efficient members.

Chairman of Lawyers Syndicate , Al-Firas Faris called on the lawyers nominated for the People’s Assembly to live up to the responsibility entrusted to them, and to work after winning the elections to submit advanced draft laws, including the laws that organize the legal profession and the unified unions’ law.

He expressed his hope that an appropriate number of lawyers with legal capabilities and knowledge of legislative issues would reach the People’s Assembly seats, since laws require a complete study to be issued and applied in society.
