DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr Faisal Miqdad yesterday discussed with Sigrid Kag head of the joint mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the United Nations the significant progress made by Syria in implementing its obligations, and means to continue the constructive cooperation between Syria and both sides.
Dr. Miqdad said that Syria is committed to implementing its obligations on this file in spite of the difficult conditions it undergoes currently.
Miqdad pointed attempts by some countries to politicize this file at a time when Syria deals with the matter with full cooperation.
For her part, Kag praised Syria ‘s cooperation in what has been accomplished so far in the framework of the implementation of its obligations, stressing that the international community appreciates the progress that has been made in this domain.
She expressed readiness to make every effort in order to overcome the obstacles and maintain close cooperation with the Syrian authorities to accomplish the common goal.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem had discussed with Kag in Damascus, late February ways to continued strengthening cooperation between Syria and the Organization concerning the program to destroy the chemical weapons in Syria.
Kag re- emphasized continued willingness to make every effort for the sake of the success of this mission and meet its requirements.
