Damascus University students: Participation in the People’s Assembly elections expresses the Syrians’ will to strengthen democracy

Damascus University students confirmed that participating in the People’s Assembly elections is a right and a constitutional duty for every Syrian citizen in view of the importance of this participation in strengthening democracy.

Opinions about the importance of participation in the elections have been monitored. Some students believed that the candidate must be concerned with issues of public interest, indicating that participation in the People’s Assembly elections is of great importance as this participation is the basic pillar in the process of building and strengthening democracy.

Law student Lilian Shaheen stated that she would give her vote to the candidate who is able to improve the reality of students in particular and who contributes to providing the students’ needs and works to build their future.

Nour Kiwan, fourth year geology student, pointed out that the participation of students and youth in the People’s Assembly elections promotes awareness about the community as participation is considered one of the democratic means that express the will of the people.

Fourth-year law students, Mahmoud Deeb, Muhammad Shiban, and Muhammad Al-Sheikh, stated that they will give their votes to the best candidate who has a great deal of awareness towards societal issues and fulfills the aspirations of citizens. Therefore, it is necessary to choose the right person regardless of any individual interests.
