Engineer Arnous inaugurates Ghabaghb power station in Daraa countryside

On July 4th, Prime Minister Hussein Arnous inaugurated the Ghabaghb 66/20 kV power transformer station with a capacity of 30 megavolt amperes and its feeding lines at a total cost exceeding 30 billion Syrian pounds.

Engineer Arnous toured the station’s sections and listened to an explanation from the Minister of Electricity, Engineer Ghassan Al-Zamel, about the importance of the station as it supplies the surrounding industrial and educational facilities, in addition to a number of residential areas such as (Mothbin, Ghabaghb, Al-Zawitina, Mankat Al-Hatab), which contributes to reducing the loads on the Al-Sanamayn 66/20 kV power transformer station, and in stabilizing the electrical network in Daraa Governorate.

In a statement to reporters, the Prime Minister said: “Ghabaghb station is one of the most important stations in Daraa Governorate because it is at the end of the administrative borders of the governorate which means that the electricity that was reaching those areas was weak, and the pressure on it was great”. He indicated that the benefit of this station, which was scheduled to be established in 2010, is great in the fields of industry, agriculture and educational facilities in the region.

Engineer Arnous added: “The actual cost of this station is more than 50 billion liras, but the Ministry of Electricity cadres and technicians were able to complete the installation and equipment process with their own capabilities, and reduce the costs of this station to become 30 billion Syrian pounds.”

In turn, the Minister of Electricity, Engineer Ghassan Al-Zamel, explained that the cost of completing the station amounted to more than 30 billion and 200 million Syrian Pounds, noting that the cadres working in the ministry saved the state approximately 20 billion Syrian pounds as a result of the engineering work they carried out and not relying on external cadres.

The Minister of Electricity pointed out that during this year, many works will be completed in the electrical generation and distribution stations to renew the electrical network, and rehabilitate what was destroyed by terrorism.

For his part, Daraa Governor Eng. Louay Kharita pointed out that the governorate is gradually recovering in all agricultural, industrial and community sectors, which requires increasing the reliability of the electrical system to serve it.

For his part, the Director of the Electricity Transmission and Distribution Corporation Eng. Jaber Al-Asi explained that the ministry is following up on its plan to rehabilitate the 66/20 transformer stations and establish new transformer stations to reduce the loads on the electrical network.
