UN Official: The Need For Humanitarian Aid To Flow Into Gaza Strip

New York-(ST)- The United Nations Chief Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in the Gaza Strip, Sigrid Kaag, confirmed that the Israeli aggression against the Strip has led to a major humanitarian crisis stressing the need for the arrival of continuous humanitarian aid to the affected sector.

Kaag said in a briefing to the Security Council on Tuesday about the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue: “The war has not only created a humanitarian crisis, but also caused human misery, such as the collapsed public health system and  destroyed schools.”

Kaag pointed to the displacement of more than a million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip following the Israeli attack on Rafah on May 6, expressing her concern about reports that new Israeli evacuation orders were issued in the Khan Yunis area in the south of the Gaza Strip.

The UN official stressed the need for aid to flow continuously to various parts of the Gaza Strip through all crossings, especially the Rafah crossing in the south of the Gaza Strip

Regarding reconstruction, Kaag said: “While humanitarian aid will be required for the coming years, planning and preparation for recovery and early reconstruction is essential.”
