Mohamed Ould Ghazouani wins second presidential term in Mauritania

Nouakchott, (ST) – The Independent National Election Commission in Mauritania today announced that President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani won a second five-year term, after obtaining 56.12 percent of votes.

The commission stated on its website that the number of voters in the elections reached 1,074,208 out of 1,939,342 people eligible to vote, after the completion of the counting in all centers.

According to the commission, the parliamentarian Biram Dah Abeid came in the second place with 22.10 percent of the votes, while the opposition leader and candidate of the Tawassoul Party, Hamadi Sidi Al-Mukhtar, came in third place with 12.76 percent of votes, while the fourth place went to Al-Eid Mohameden Mbarek with 3.57 percent of votes, and the fifth place was for Ba Mamadou Boukari with 3.39 percent of votes.
