With The Participation Of Syrian and Arab Judges And Legal Experts, A People’s Court of Justice for Gaza in Damascus

Damascus-(ST)- The Arab Nation League Foundation held at the Ebla Hotel in Damascus yesterday a “People’s Court of Justice for Gaza” with the participation of Syrian and Arab judges and legal experts to activate the popular role in the legal struggle against the Israeli occupation.

The court heard “the best legal arguments against the Zionist crimes committed in the Gaza Strip.”

Secretary General of the Arab Nation League Foundation, Dr. Hala Al-Asaad, explained in a statement to SANA that this court comes within the university’s plan to strengthen the culture of legal resistance against Zionist crimes, and to empower students in international work in favor of the central issue “Palestine.”

She added: The court is a starting point to enable doctoral students in public international work to defend the Arab nation, indicating that the results of the court will be in the name of the people and the nation, explaining that the participating judges are jurists from “Egypt, Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria.”

Judge Muhammad Tay from Lebanon, Chairman of the People’s Court, said: The court unanimously decided to criminalize the acts committed by the leaders and soldiers of the Israeli occupation entity and its funding organizations and to sentence them to penalties in international and national laws.

Lawyer Maroun Al-Mahouli from the Beirut Bar Association said: This trial is not official, but rather conscientious, and the court’s ruling is considered morally a means of legal resistance with word and pen.

Lawyer Naim Akbiq from Damascus explained that this is a court that expresses the will of the people because international justice is politicized and global public opinion must be addressed.

From Iraq, Dr. Hatef Al-Rikabi, the court’s prosecutor, pointed out that this court will be a beacon for other countries to issue strict decisions against this usurping enemy who committed the most heinous international crimes in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and Syria.

Judge Ahlam Baydoun from Lebanon pointed out the importance of linking the work of this court to the basic crime of establishing the Zionist entity in Palestine.

Dr. Yasser Kalzi, a legal expert from Damascus, explained that the work of this people’s court is a reflection of the change in global public opinion regarding what is happening in occupied Palestine.

Dr. Manal Finjan, a member of the court from Iraq, said: The people’s courts are a project for original decisions because they give a first impression and prepare the initial requirements for success in case that there is any official action.

The Arab Nation League Foundation is a non-governmental organization concerned with social, cultural, developmental, heritage, youth and Palestinian affairs.
