Child labor and its negative impacts on society, a workshop in Daraa countryside

As part of the efforts made to combat child labor and its negative effects on society, Red Crescent volunteers held a workshop in the town of Al-Njaih.

The workshop centred on the effects that this phenomenon has on both the individuals and the society. It comes within the framework of the World Day to Combat Child Labor with support from UNICEF.

The workshop included an introduction to child labor, its forms, results and effects. It carried awareness messages to children and adolescents about the negative effects of labor on their lives and future.

The head of the Red Crescent branch in Daraa Ahmed Masalma, explained that this phenomenon prevents children from continuing their educational attainment and keeps them from school, which threatens their mental and physical health, stressing the motivation of families to fight such a phenomenon and reduce its negative effects on the individuals and society.

In turn, lawyer Akram Al-Omari stressed during the workshop that there are strict laws that punish anyone who employs children, pointing to the necessity of providing a meaningful educational environment for the youngsters in the family and school.

Judge Muhammad Al-Miqdad pointed out that anyone who seeks and secures work for an adolescent or child is accused in the eyes of the law, because the legislation approved by Syrian law prohibits this and imposes penalties that reach imprisonment for years side by side with an appropriate fine.
