President Al-Assad: Syria is open to all initiatives related to the relation between Syria and Turkey based on the Syrian state’s sovereignty

President Bashar Al-Assad has confirmed Syria’s openness to all initiatives related to the relation between Syria and Turkey based on the sovereignty of the Syrian state over its entire territory on the one hand, and the fight against all forms of terrorism on the other.

The President made the remarks during his meeting on Wednesday with the Russian President’s Special Envoy Alexander Lavrentiev.

He stressed that these initiatives reflect the will of the concerned countries to bring stability to Syria and the region in general.

President Al-Assad pointed out that Syria has always dealt positively and constructively with all relevant initiatives, pointing out that the success of any initiative stems from respecting the sovereignty and stability of states.

In another context, President Al-Assad hailed the peace initiative launched by President Vladimir Putin between Russia and Ukraine, saying that it constitutes a real basis for a peaceful settlement between the two countries, and that its rejection by the West and Ukraine means that they will be held completely responsible for the bloodshed.

For his part, Lavrentiev affirmed his country’s support for all initiatives related to Syria-Turkey relation made by all countries interested in correcting that relation. He stressed that the conditions seem now to be more suitable than ever for the success of mediations, and that Russia is ready to work to push the negotiations forward. He pointed out that the goal is to succeed in restoring the relations between Syria and Turkey.
