Matvienko: Terrorist attack in Dagestan is a provocation planned from abroad

Moscow, (ST) – Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko stressed that the terrorist attack that occured in Dagestan, in which 15 law enforcement officers and civilians were killed, is a despicable provocation carefully planned from abroad.

Matviyenko on Tuesday said on her Telegram channel: “I think that the main defense mechanism for us is a clear understanding that what happened has no objective preconditions, which is strange to us, but it was carefully planned from abroad by our enemies and financed by them and it aims specifically to sow discord. This is their plan”.

Matviyenko considered that the enemy was unable to defeat Russia from the outside and therefore is looking for any means to blow up Russian society from within, as the basic features of the Russian state, such as pluralism, are under attack. She stressed that we are dealing with international terrorism and we must not surrender to emotions and thus contribute to the implementation of others’ hostile plans.

Yesterday, terrorists attacked religious sites in Derbent and a traffic police station in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, resulting in civilian and police casualties.

According to the Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee, a number of militants were eliminated during the operation and a criminal case was opened under the article on terrorist attacks in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Kanaani said any type of terrorism is a threat to human society and international security.
