PA Speaker: Successive US Administrations are Makers, Exporters of International Terrorism

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The border-crossing terrorism targeting Syria is planned, funded and armed by the West’s colonialist countries and their regional tools which on daily basis violate the international legitimacy and the Security Council resolutions on combating terrorism, Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham said, pointing out that these countries are the last who have the right to talk about international law.

Lahham, who was speaking on Monday to a delegation representing the parliament of the Russian city of Saint Petersburg, said that the successive American administrations are the makers of international terrorism. They have exported this terrorism to the entire world and they repeatedly violated the international law by waging wars on independent states.

“According to international legitimacy and international law which prohibit intervention in the internal affairs of countries, the United States doesn’t have the right to criticize the countries which back Syria and the Syrian people, particularly Russia,” Lahham said.

He added that the releasing of the St. Tecla Monastery’s nuns, who had been abducted by al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist takfiri groups, proves that these groups are subjugated to certain countries which support the terrorism facing all components of the Syrian people.

For his part, Head of the Russian delegation Alexi Forntsov said “Syria is not only an ally rather it is a real friend. Syria’s steadfastness in confrontation of terrorism prevents the conflict from being expanded to become a global war.”

He reviewed the political and civil society activities being held in Saint Petersburg city with the purpose of reactivating the popular diplomacy in support for Syria, referring to the establishment of a Russian-Syrian association and the implementation of sit-ins in front of the American Consulate to protest the American anti-Syria policies.

Members of the guest delegation voiced their support for Syria’s struggle against the Western alliance and its tools in the region, pointing out that the American intervention in Syria aims at disseminating sectarianism and discord to fragment the Syrian society.

Later, Minster of Social Affairs Kinda al-Shammat, met the Russian delegation and hailed the efforts being exerted by Russian civil society associations to ensure and send humanitarian aid to Syrian families affected by the ongoing crisis.

The minister stressed that children are most affected by the terrorist acts of the armed groups, as many kids have lost their parents and the social care they used to receive and have been psychologically affected.

Members of the Russian delegation expressed their readiness to provide possible aid to affected children in Syria, including medicine, needed vaccines ad orphan care.
