Palestine elected member of Board of Directors of International Labor Organization

Palestine yesterday won its seat in third place as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Labor Organization (ILO) for the 2024-2027 term.

This came after a unanimous vote by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the Arab Trade Union Confederation (ATUC), even though Palestine is considered an observer member and not a full member of the United Nations.

Palestine was represented by the Secretary-General of the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions, Shaher Saad, at the ILO conference, within the workers’ team represented by 29 members from across the world’s continents.

Saad said that after the report of the Director General of the ILO, Gilbert Houngbo, on the occupied Arab territories, the Board of Directors will discuss Palestine’s obtainment of full membership in the ILO as soon as possible, noting that the ITUC and the ATUC unanimously decided to demand the adoption of full Palestine membership.
