Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday that Iran is ready to solve the crisis in Syria in cooperation with the European Union, IRNA reported.
Speaking to the EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherein Ashton in Tehran on Sunday, Larijani said Iranian Majlisˈ specialized commissions are closing monitoring the issues relating to foreign policy and national security.
He said recent nuclear developments have been studied in many meetings attended by Majlis deputies.
On Iran-EU relations, Larijani said the West did not abide by its commitments in exchange for Iran’s good intention and now the time has come for European Union and the G5+1 to take concrete actions sincerely to meet common objectives.
Larijani said the Islamic Republic of Iran has done much in connection with restoration of peace and tranquility to the region, including Afghanistan and Iraq, and now it is determined to continue good cooperation with the EU to solve the crisis in Syria.
ˈTo solve the crisis in Syria, there is no need for such options as use of military, arming and mobilizing extremists and terrorists and the only way is to provide people of the country with a chance to softly and gradually promote democracy in the diverse Syrian community.ˈ
For her part, Ashton said the EU feels itself obliged to cooperate with Iran on nuclear issue and other key regional matters.
Pointing to mutual cooperation, Ashton said such regional challenges as terrorism, extremism and the crisis in Syria are among issues on which Iran and the EU can consult and cooperate.
